【3-day Workshop Agenda】

※ DAY1：28 June(Tue)

TIME: 09:30－12:30

Academic Vocabulary: the Missing Link

This 3-hour workshop starts with an attempt to answer the question “Is there an academic vocabulary?” It explores the various aspects of vocabulary acquisition, and ends with suggestions on how to help students to use vocabulary effectively in EMI Education.

TIME: 14:00-16:00

A 2-hour, hands-on workshop on designing tasks and learning materials for academic vocabulary acquisition.

No more BTS: 10 Ways to support students in EMI

There is a tendency for teachers to Blame The Students (BTS) when they do not perform to their expectations.  This often forms a vicious circle by which students will shy further away from learning English and taking EMI courses.  10 ways to support students, based on research and experience, will be shared.  

TIME: 14:00-16:00

A 2-hour sharing session, a la “Alcohol Anonymous”, for EMI practitioners to come together and learn from each other.

From EMI to EML: Towards Emergence & Sustainability

In this talk, the speaker shares a macro view of NPTU’s EMI implementation plan, by reviewing its hitherto progress and suggesting milestones and measures of success for the future.  He argues that for the initiative to succeed we need to create favorable conditions for sustainable policies to take effect, and allowing good practice to emerge from among the stake-holders, including administrators, staff, professors and students.
