About EMI
National Pingtung University (NPTU) was established in 2014 by the merger of the National Pingtung University of Education and Pingtung Institute of Commerce. Under the leadership of the first president, Dr. Mike Y. K. Guu, NPTU offers multiple educational tracks, including higher education, teacher preparation, and vocational and technological education, allowing for interdisciplinary learning opportunities. Through the integration of its facilities and resources, NPTU aims to advance the faculty's teaching and research abilities and enhance students' global competitiveness. In response to the Taiwanese government's New Southbound Policy, NPTU strives to cultivate international talents with resources including national funding, the local government, current teachers and students, domestic and overseas alumni, international sister schools, and enterprises. NPTU's vision is to become an international university that guides elite professionals towards excellence.
Facing the era of globalisation, the ability of citizens in being able to communicate in a common international language plays an important part in national competitiveness. It is essential for Taiwan to have a greater influence in the international community. NPTU, as one of Taiwan's cradles of cultivating higher education talents, is obliged to strongly promote bilingual learning in cooperation with the government to develop Taiwan into a Bilingual Nation by 2030.
